The Preview of the installation Parliament by Tim Shaw is tonight 7-9…
A mischievous Parliament of rooks will be running amok in the shabby chic lower room of Jam, an esoteric record shop in Falmouth, from 11th May 2012, where they will be in residence for a fortnight of mayhem.
Parliament is an installation created by the renowned sculptor Tim Shaw; it consists of twenty five rooks constructed from black polythene, straw and wire. The room in Jam is filled with the menacing cries of the birds merged with political debates recorded from within the House of Commons.

hot on the heels of november’s instore with ahab we have another happening this week at jam - Son of Eagle will be playing on friday afternoon ahead of their gig at Peapods on saturday
First post since april so you know either we’ve got nothing better to do or something is happening at the jam… well it’s a bit of both… we have one of those instore things happening here, somewhere over by the sofa I reckon. Next tuesday (nov 22) about 4.30 we’re hosting Ahab playing some classy British americana. Listening to their new ep now and it’s got some beautiful harmony vocals which are going to sound right nice in here. Catch them before they head off to support Bellowhead at the Pavillions.
as if the day wasn’t exciting enough with all that limited edition vinyl on sale on saturday 16th, we are also hosting an ‘instore’ (is that an irritating Americanism or can we say that?) Our good friends Red River Dialect will be playing in our brand new venue, otherwise known as ‘downstairs’ here at the jam from about 2pm and followed by the lovely Colour Sun who did such a great job supporting Hiss Golden Messenger a while back.
lots of exclusive limited edition stuff heading its way here for the day… just ordered the new Panda Bear on vinyl so hopeful we’ll have a couple of copies. we’ve definitely got some of these - Midlake, Gotan Project, Sandy Denny, Rolling Stones, Sonic Youth, Nirvana and surely some Radiohead…? we’re doing our best.

for the first time ever we have managed to sign up for record store day and are just now browsing the list of exclusive goodies we will be selling on 16 April. to have a quick preview take a look at the official web site here -

hoping to have some good live music on the day too… will post another post soon to keep you posted… ha ha
just in this week is a huge batch of imported vinyl. lots of soul/funk stuff - James Brown, Marlena Shaw, the Meters and my favourite - Bill Withers “Still Bill’… and some classic jazz repressings from the likes of Lee Morgan, Lou Donaldson, Miles Davis and Donald Byrd. We’ll be putting some up on the web site soon but if you’re nearby it’s worth a visit - it’s what record shops used to be like. if you’re not done Christmas shopping we have a table stacked with dvds - a great selection of Japanese Anime from Studio Ghibli, some classic foreign film including the Three Colours Trilogy and some other things with Juliette Binoche in. oh and we have a few cds too.
